Women stitched slippers for their husbands as an act of love. During the Victorian era slippers were stitched in Berlin Woolwork. My version subverts the usual floral motif and instead here you see a floral uterus pattern. Traditional ideas of the body, whereby women were regarded as smaller versions of men, and ‘turned outside in’ are played with in this work.
